Indeed, we have a plan, and Katzzy deserves our thanks for this recommendation. It’s a reimagined version of Doom, known as Brutal Doom, and yes, it’s as brutal as it sounds! We’re looking at the February 2024 playtest version, which boasts all the latest features.
For this session, I’ll be using a custom soundtrack. It’s unclear if the music is royalty-free, but that’s something we’ll discover post-stream.
If you’re keen to try this combination of games, here’s what you’ll need, presented as clickable links:
– GZDoom (typically the 64-bit release)
– C.T.U.M.P. (a replacement soundtrack akin to Aubrey Hodges’ work on Doom PS1)
– Doom WAD (unfortunately, I can’t provide a direct link, but Doom 1993 is available on Steam, and the WAD file is included there)
The straightforward method to get started is to drag and drop the Brutal Doom and CTUMP pk3 files onto your GZDoom executable. For a more refined setup, edit the GZDoom ini file in your documents/my games/gzdoom directory. Under global.autoload, insert the paths to the two pk3 files(prefixed with “Path=”), ensuring they’re absolute paths.
That’s the rundown; we’re going live in about an hour.
