Manhunt

  1. Firstly navigate to this webpage, and download the 64-bit version of ImDisk Toolkit. Proceed to install the software. This software allows you to use your physical memory as a ramdisk. This works great with older games.
  2. Now download the custom-built image I made for you from here. This version removes the Securom DRM from the Steam release and fixes all the bugs that are present for modern systems. This custom build also included the fan-made remaster for Manhunt.
  3. Run the executable file named Manhunt.exe and input the password when asked to. The password will be supplied on request. Due to the high compression ratio of this file, this may take some time to decompress. When it is finished, you should be left with an img file.
  4. Right-click the image file, go to show more options (if using Windows 11), and mount the image with ImDisk Toolkit.
  5. Lastly, browse to the new drive that was created when you mounted the image file, and open the following file d3d8.ini. You should see the following information in this file…

Under no circumstances should you increase the FPS limit option. The game is very old school and was never designed to be above 60fps, doing so will introduce AI inconsistencies and random inworld bugs.

After doing this, fire up Steam, add a new library location, browse to the new drive that appeared when you mounted the image file, and Manhunt should appear in your library. If it doesn’t, then open the executable file directly, and Steam should detect it then (make sure Steam is open when you do this).

This only works if you own the game on Steam.

Have fun, you should have zero crashes now, and super speed loading times.
